Points of Interest
We want you to get the most out of your spring break vacation, so here's a few of our organizers favorite spots!
Places to Explore!
BOARDWALK AT CAROLINA BEACH
This vintage boardwalk that dates back to the 1930's is only 2 blocks long, but packed with classic Carolina Beach charm. Britt's Donuts is a must, period. A visit to play some games in the Arcade is also a must. Stop into one of the touristy beach shops to get your beach souvenir fix. If you're looking to go home with a pet hermit crab, well you're in luck, because this is the spot to make that dream come true too!
CAROLINA BEACH STATE PARK
Located on the river side of the island, this NC state park is free for everyone to enter and has some amazing late afternoon to sunset views. Depending on the tide, its a fun spot to walk around and explore. The park also provides visitors a great campground and facilities.
THE CB SKATE PARK
Almost directly across the street from the entrance to the sTate park, is a great sKate park! Its located in the Mike Chappell city park. "This 8,000 square foot skate park is complete with ramps, rails, and bowls."
NC AQUARIUM @ FORT FISHER
They're currently only selling pre-purchased admissions ($13 per adult) online with reserved time slots. I've visited this aquarium more times than I can count now over the years, and every time I discover something new. My favorite part is strolling through the conservatory, and according to their website, there is a new otter habitat!
FORT FISHER STATE RECREATION AREA
"Alternate between nearly six miles of pristine beach and trails through salt marsh brimming with wildlife... a park touching both the Atlantic Ocean and the Cape Fear River. Development on this protected shoreline is limited to a visitor center and related facilities and boardwalks that attract birders and photographers. Loggerhead sea turtles, piping plovers and other rare species nest along the sandy shore. The park is popular for surf fishing, and four-wheel-drive vehicles are allowed seasonally with required permits. On this tip of Pleasure Island, visitors will also find a state aquarium, Civil War-era historic site and a boating ramp and paddling launch nearby."
THE CHRISTMAS HOUSE (SOUTHPORT)
This is just an interesting shop to say the least. Its an old Victorian home converted into a 2 story, year round Christmas store. This is the kind of place that a midwestern mom who subscribes to Country Living Magazine would geek out over while their husband waits in the designated gazebo out front because they have zero desire to go inside... so you will either be delighted by the magic of Christmas or completely creeped out by the upstairs bedroom display of Mr. & Mrs. Claus in bed. They sell penny candy though- I think we can all agree that is cool.
Eats and Treats!
BRITT'S DONUT SHOP
Most people across the country probably know about Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, which was born here in NC, but if you live in NC then you may know that the real OG in the donut game is actually Britt's. They're CASH ONLY and I highly suggest getting there early because they're only open until they sell out for the day! Your menu options are 1 donut, a half doz, or a dozen. I recommend getting at least bag full (doz), because you will want more than one and when your friends see that delicious glazed soaked white paper sack, they will instinctually attack you for a Britt's donut. This is your warning; don't "@" me saying I didn't tell ya!
NOLLIE'S TACO JOINT
For those of you stoked to bring your board to skate at the park, this is your go-to spot to refuel after a sesh! "So-Cal inspired tacos surrounded by positive, laid back, skateboarding inspired vibes. Alongside the taco, our menu boasts options such as burritos, salads, quesadillas, nachos, and rotating homemade desserts. With vegan and vegetarian options, there are delicious bites for everyone at the Joint." They also have a wide variety of beer and other alcoholic beverages!
OCEAN GRILL & TIKI BAR
This is one of my favorite spots to eat crab cakes and/or grab a drink. Its all about the location with this one- sitting on the pier overlooking the ocean below is an experience all in itself!
KATE'S PANCAKE HOUSE
If you have a sweet tooth and you need a bit something more than donuts from Britt's... let me just list of few of their pancake options- Red Velvet, Sweet Potato Bliss, Pig-N-Blanket, Banana, Banana Nut, Death by Chocolate, Oreo, Very Berry, Reese's, Smores, Boston Cream, Pecan, Caribbean Pleasure... you get the idea. They also have normal traditional breakfast items too.
"The Provision Company of Southport is ideally situated overlooking the Old Yacht Basin in downtown Southport and offers unobstructed views of the Intracoastal Waterway. Relax with an ice-cold beer, some peel-and-eat shrimp, or a delicious hamburger or hot dog. Come join us for some of the best views and best sunsets in Southport! Dine alfresco on our covered patio!"
THE FAT PELICAN
Voted the best dive bar in the state of North Carolina and one of the top 25 in the country! They have a huge walk in beer cooler and awesome indoor/outdoor seating areas.
REGGIES 42nd STREET TAVERN (WILMINGTON)
This is the location Sunday's lunch cookout! Come join us for burgers and drinks; big thanks to Reggie's with hosting all of us at Moped Spring Break!
FLAMING AMY'S BURRITO BARN (WILMINGTON)
An area favorite! They're "hot, fast, cheap, and easy". Visit the Barn or their Carolina Beach location for an amazing burrito in a fun funky and retro environment!
